Cleo's Third Birthday!

Alright, well, I know this isn't exactly Lolita related, but my little sister Cleo just turned 3, and when she was asked what she wanted to do for her party she proptly told us that she HAD to have a fairy tea party!

That being said when it came time for the party and Cleo and I were getting ready she told me that she wanted me to wear "One of your pretty outfits sissy." That being said I QUICKLY jumped into a casual lolita coord. Needless to say she as trilled, she hugged me and said "Sissy we look so beautiful."

That alone made it so adorable that I thought I would brave my fathers wrath and we headed down stairs. Now before I get into my father despising lolita, I figured we could look at a few pictures from the party.

This is Cleo my little sister in her birthday outfit with some balloons.

The party was outside and of course very pink.

We had a very lovely selection of teas and tea cups. And of course healthy munchies.

Cleo acting like the princess she is!

And of course my little brother Phelan acting like a 5 year old boy at a tea party.

And now onto the not so fun part. When I came down stairs with my sister my Dad flipped out, he HATES the fact that i wear Lolita, and no matter what I tell him or show him he is still 100% under the impression that it is nothing but a fetish.

So I had to explain to him that Cleo is the one who asked me to dress up, but he didn't care. Needless to say I refused to change and he hasn't really talked to me in 4 days. My point is, in my opinion it doesn't matter WHAT anyone else thinks, if you love something stick to it.

My father has threatened to kick me out because of Lolita, and honestly while it would suck a lot, I love wearing Lolita more than I love living in his house. I am never going to change because he thinks its a fetish because I know how much it means to me, and his matters not!

Basically if you love it, stick to your guns.

Any of you readers have freinds, family or loved ones who hate your love of Lolita? How do you deal with it?

As always thanks for reading!

Dress for your Body Type: Diamond and Oval

Hey all! Its weird cause I actually have an audience to talk to now! I wanted to think you so much for following my blog, I do really appreciate it! I really want to say sorry for taking so long to update my blog, the world has proven that it wants to keep me away from the internet, but here I am for you're entertainment. Todays Post is going to be another Dress for Your Body Type, but this time I have chosen more common body types for us voluptuous ladies: Diamond and Oval

Don't know if you're beautiful body is Diamond or Oval Shaped? Here is what they entail:
  •  Your waist is undefined, very similar as the rectangle body shape. [Some of those guidelines may also work for you!]
  • You may have a larger high stomach for Diamond or a large low stomach for Oval
  • You may have love handles
  • You might have a large or flat bottom
  • You may have wide hips if you are Oval
To dress for your beautiful Diamond or Oval shape you want to dress to draw attention to your face, neck and shoulders.

Now to do this in Lolita may seem a bit tricky, but remember, no matter what your shape you CAN look good in Lolita, its all about deciding what works best for your body type and then making and awesome coord that involves just that! For these body types the styling tips are basically the same.

You are going to want to wear lower necklines, for which I recommend cutsews, they aren't all that low in the neck, BUT in comparison to a blouse they are a lot lower. Personally for these body types I don't like OP's or JSK's. I like the look of sperates, a skirt paired with a cute cutsew and a cardi for that over-all Lolita look. Of course color and style are up to you! I also think that that large pettis make larger body types seem a bit smaller, as the size difference between your waist and the bottom of the skirt flared out is pretty drastic, it is going to give you the illusion of a smaller waist. And remember DON'T tuck in your cutsew! It will give you an over all round shape and that is not what we are going for.

And don't forget a truly finished coord includes accessories, make-up and a hairstyle, so don't skimp on those details! You're already putting in so much work, why not just add those finishing touches and make your outfit go from wow to WONDERFUL!

As always thanks for reading, and remember that you are all beautiful individuals, and that no matter you're size or shape you are gorgeous!

Dressing for your Body Type: Rectangle

Heya fellow Lolis! I'm back again with another body-type and a few tips for you. Now I want to say this again, until its ingrain into your frill-filled loli brains: no matter what shape/ type your body is, that does not mean that is it not beautiful and that does not mean we CAN'T work with it! We are all beautiful in our own way, and I know for a fact that everyone can wear Lolita and look good, it's just a matter of making sure we dress for our body type!

Now, today were going to work on the "Rectangle Figure". Don't know if that means you? Here is what a "Rectangle Figure" is usually considered to be:
  • Your full bust and hip lines are about the same.
  • You have very little to no waist definition
  • You may have a smaller-medium bust
So to dress for your Rectangle figure you are going to want to dress by accentuating your shoulders, or your waist, what we are going to attempt to do is give the illusion of curves.

In Lolita I recommend wearing Medium to High necklines, doing so will help to accentuate your shoulders. I also recommend wearing a typical A-Line style Lolita dress, what this is going to do is glide down the straighter sides for your body and at the beginning of your hips the skirt will bell out, giving the otherwise straight sides of your torso a shape.

A-Line dresses are another very classic Lolita silhouette, wearing either a JSK or OP with an A-Line silhouette with a short or long sleeved blouse with a high neck line, and of course knee highs and a cute pair of shoes will help to complete this coord! Remember not to slack when it comes to hair and make-up either, if you're putting all this effort into your outfit why not style your hair and throw on some make up to complete the look?

As always thanks for reading, next time we we will be covering one of the more typical Chubby Lolita body types, the Oval Figure.

Dressing for your Body Type: Hourglass

I know this is a really hard topic for a lot of us bigger lolitas, we want to be able to wear what ever we want, because honestly in Lolita fashion there isn't much of a variety of silhouettes for us to chose from. But I really want to emphasize how important it is for us to dress for our body type!

When you dress for your correct body type you will over come a lot of the hurdles there are with being a plus sized Lolita. This entry is going to focus on those with an "Hourglass" body type.

Don't know if you have an "Hourglass Figure"? Well here is a handy little guide. You have an Hourglass Figure if:
  • You bust and hip are the same size
  • You have a very defined waist
  • Your body is well balanced in the bust and waist areas
Now some would think that this is the "ideal" body shape, but I honestly think each shape has something going for it. When dressing for your Hourglass figure you want to chose clothes that are going to accentuate your gorgeous curves without adding bulk to that area.

For you Lolitas with an hourglass figure I recommend cupcake shape dresses. Why? Because with the cupcake silhouette the top of the dress is going to end where your waist is the smallest showing that off, and then poof out in one of the more classic Lolita silhouettes. Coord this with they typical cardigan or shrug, a pair of knee highs or tights and your favorite Lolita shoes, and of course the accessories and you have a well-fitting and beautiful coord.

Remember there is no "better" body type you just have to know how to dress for yours!

Etsy and why I LOVE IT!

Honestly while I love Brand accessories and what not, I really like like hand made items a lot more. So basically when I get bored or really need to find something to go with a coord I head over to my good old stand-by Etsy. Seriously some of the cutest accessories I have ever seen come from just searching "sweet lolita" on Etsy and browsing through PAGES of stuff. Its fun, and for the most part relatively inexpensive too.

You can of course refine your searches a lot more than I do, but a lot of the time I have no idea what i am actually looking for. I also really like looking for supplies to make items I have found at places like Walmart, Layne Bryant, Avenue and the like loliable. You can always search stuff like "decoden supplies" which comes up with some of the most adorable things I have ever ordered. And on a side note, a lot of the time just buying the decoden supplies or the supplies to make things more loliable is a lot more cost effective as well! And who doesn't like to save money?

The one thing I don't really like to look for on Etsy is clothes, it seems to me for us plus-sized girls the fact that we are going to buying something that may not fit is a bit scary, so honestly I just tend to stay away from more of the pre-sized clothes that the sellers post. Like one specific person style? Thats awesome! But why not try messaging them and asking if they would be willing to make something custom for you instead? It just seems the safer route to go, just so you don't waste your cash and get something that doesn't really fit. If possible have someone make something in your exact measurements, guarantee it fits, and be happy with the design! Its all win win.

Welcome!

Well, here it is! I have been talking about doing a blog for a while now, and honestly it feels good to finally start one.
Well first let me introduce myself. My name is Caitlin though I most usually go by Cat, I have been interested in lolita fashion for the past 8 years, originally my interest started with Gothic Lolita but ever since I started wearing the fashion I have actually stuck to Sweet and Classical lolita.

I am a 20 year old college student who also works full-time as a checker at a grocery store, not the most glamorous job, but it pays the bills, and gives me a bit left over to save for the fashion we all love and crave. All in all I am an offbrand kind of girl myself, if I can achieve the look and spend the least amount of money? Hell yes I will. I don't understand the obsession with braundo, and I don't think I ever really will. I like to get the most bang for my buck so.... Offbrand and handmade items make up MOST of my wardrobe.

As for brands that I do like the style of? I prefer Baby the Stars Shine Bright, mostly because their full-shirred JSK's fit me like a charm and because I really like their prints, and Meta for basically the same reason.

The point I really want to make with this blog is us plus sized lolitas are basically the same as any other, only we tend to put up with a lot more grief for our size for absolutely no reason. I figure I am going to be updating about good deals of loliable things that I find, featuring awesome crafters and Etsy shops, and all-in-all sharing what it is like to be a plus sized lolita.

If you have any ideas for shops or crafters I should feature please don't hesitate to shoot me a line!

See you next time!
